What you should know about bed bugs

Bedbugs are small, light brown, wingless insects that feed on the blood of humans and animals. Bedbugs live for six to seven months and can survive without food for about that long. People vary in their reactions to the bites of the bed bug. Although some people seem to be unaffected by the bites, many find them extremely uncomfortable. The bite of a bed bug may cause lack of sleep.

Bed bugs usually hiding in mattresses, furniture, and behind wallpaper. There are some signs of infestation that might be noticed. One sign that you may have bed bugs even if you don’t develop any symptoms from their bites is the presence of blood spots and identifying a dead bed bug on your sheets.

If you already have bed bugs, infested beds and mattresses should be disposed of, fumigated, or treated with insecticides. Infested items that can’t be treated must be destroyed.
